Dental Exams

Preventive dentistry is the name of the game at our Fargo dental office. Dr. Austin Vetter always stresses the importance of regular visits so we can help maintain your healthy smile. Through our comprehensive exams, we can monitor your family’s oral health at any age. Plus, we can provide easy-to-follow advice for your at-home dental routines.

During a typical exam, Dr. Vetter discusses your medical and dental history while listening to your concerns and goals. Next, he’ll examine your mouth using modern technology and take any necessary digital x-rays. These pictures allow us to explain any potential issues while identifying areas for improvement visually.

After the exam, we’ll sit with you and outline your custom treatment plan. This includes addressing any additional concerns and explaining your financing options.

Oral Hygiene Care

Not only do we have a wonderfully skilled dentist in our office but we also have fully-trained dental hygienists to care for your teeth and gums. In addition to your regular dental exam, we ask all patients (young and not so young) to undergo a hygiene exam. During this appointment, our dental hygienist gently and thoroughly assesses your oral health. She inspects your gums for any signs of gum disease and your teeth for plaque build-up.

These exams are important to prevent common dental issues such as periodontal (gum) disease, cavities, root canals, and so much more. You’ll enjoy a professional teeth cleaning as part of your hygiene exam. This procedure removes any plaque that hasn’t been removed by brushing or flossing.

After your cleaning, we polish your teeth and provide our kind feedback on how you can improve your at-home routine. Rest assured, we never judge or criticize but genuinely want the best for your family’s health. You can ask us any questions as we care for your smiles.

Oral Cancer Screening

With around 50,000 cases of oral cancers reported in the U.S. every year, it is vital for you and your family to get checked. At Vetter Dental, we have the technology and expertise to catch the early signs of oral cancer. This greatly increases the chances of survival.

There is a number of common symptoms Dr. Vetter can identify:

  • Lumps in the mouth or throat
  • White or red patches on the gums
  • Bleeding, pain, or numbness
  • A persistent sore throat
  • Difficulty or pain when chewing or swallowing

Our team can diagnose oral cancer through a simple examination of your nose, mouth, and throat. If cancer is suspected, we may suggest a biopsy or further medical tests to confirm the diagnosis.

Dr. Vetter is with you every step of the way and encourages all patients to attend annual oral cancer screenings.

Sealants

Brushing and flossing can be hard for our younger patients. They may find it difficult to reach all areas of their teeth and to remove debris from within the grooves on their tooth’s surface. As you may know, your teeth are not flat, they have grooves (you can feel it with your tongue), and it is common for food debris to get caught in these areas. If the debris is not removed, it can cause plaque build-up and decay.

To help families fight against plaque and cavities, Dr. Vetter offers modern dental sealants. This treatment involves the use of a clear sealant gel, which is painted onto your child’s tooth surface. The gel fills the grooves and solidifies, making the surface smooth. It is now impossible for debris to become stuck as the sealant material deflects it.

Your child thus benefits from a healthier smile, free of a major cavity risk. Sealants are checked during each routine dental visit and can be cared for as you would your natural teeth.

Mouthguards

At Vetter Dental, we offer an assortment of mouthguards for various dental reasons. Our mouthguards are custom-made to fit your smile and safeguard it comfortably. Dr. Vetter provides mouthguards for protection during sporting activities and to correct bite issues.

Our sportguards are designed to protect your natural teeth from any trauma associated with contact sport. In fact, the American Dental Association recommends all children use sportsguards when playing any sport. The mouthguards made by digital technologies ensure an accurate fit over you or your child’s natural teeth to deflect any possible injury.

Our mouthguards also help with bite and sleep issues, such as bruxism (teeth grinding). These special nightguards are worn when you’re sleeping to prevent damage to your teeth.

Our protective mouthguards can be customized to meet your exact specifications. After an exam, Dr. Vetter provides his professional recommendations, so you can enjoy a protected smile.

Had the worst toothache ever and Dr. Vetter and team got me in that day. We figured out what tooth it was and got it removed. They all were so nice and caring. They are more than a dental provider; they are my friends who really cared about me and wanted me to feel better before the day was over. Thank you all so much!
